Tbh they needed to be called out because they were both high draft picks that haven't lived up to their hype and abilities. Steve said it respectfully to try and motivate them to step up their games. He's not afraid to replace them as we've seen if they don't produce.

With the defensive defenceman influx, we absolutely need hronek to produce and be tidy in his own end. I can see hronek having a short leash and being moved to the 3rd pair and putting Chariot on the right side of Ed on the second pair

Zadina plays hard. Perhaps too hard too often. He forechecks and back checks and doesn’t have enough gas in the tank to produce offense. He is playing like a checking player rather than a skill player. He needs to work on his conditioning and strength because he isn’t that large.

I see a few comments about "their jobs are on the line". How is that so? If they don't up their game what happens? Do they get fired, go to the unemployment office, and then join the Home Depot training program to be an assistant to the assistant manager? No. They get traded to another team and keep making 7 figures. Or their contract gets bought out and they got home with a few million.

Yzerman is bringing in guys who know what the word FORECHECK means. Too many of our front line guys had a +/- in the 20's or higher. Look for Lalonde to put an end to that.

Lalonde's system and healthy Vrana(Czech Connection) will have an impact on Zadina. Hronek isn't good enough offensively for the liability he is at times.

Zadina has major shooting issues, shots and total shots increased significantly. yet his scoring percentage increased 0.3% If you saw the majority of his shots last season they were center mass on the goalie. No precision and just tried to put the puck through the goalies chest, rinse and repeat.

Sounds like he wants and expects Zadina and Hronek to take on more prominent roles under Lalonde..that’s what I took away from it. However, these new signings are a wake up call for the entire team. Yzerman knows what he wants and has a specific plan for turning the Wings into a powerhouse, much like he did in Tampa Bay. If anyone on the roster doesn’t contribute, they’ll be gone. Zadina, Vrana, Veleno, Erne, Fabbri, Rasmussen, Hronek, Lindstrom, etc, want to be part of the core moving forward? Go out there and prove it. Larkin and Bert are coming to the end of their contracts…they want big extensions? Go out and prove it. The competition Yzerman has created is going to show who wants to be a part of this franchise moving forward and who doesn’t. With Blashill, a lot of the players were given the benefit of the doubt. But with these new signings and coaching change, Yzerman is telling the locker room that he isn’t messing around and it’s time to take the next step.
