The book ending to all quiet on the western front was way sadder and realistic. Instead of a climactic battle and tragic death just before the cease fire, the main character is killed by a sniper on a normal boring day in the trenches, so normal that the journal of a commanding officer from the day reads only ' all quiet on the western front'. He died without heroism, tragedy or even recognition.

One of the few films about the war that made me cry. In many films, we are shown a romanticized version of the war, and deaths are perceived by us as given, as just numbers, but in fact there is the same person behind the sight of each weapon. Those who died in the war were also people, they also wanted to return home and move on.

a lot of people have the wrong idea when it comes to the topic of war. war isn't just a bunch of men fighting for there country, its a bunch of men living through hell for there country. this movie captures that perfectly. it might not be something most ppl want to talk about but its the truth. war is hell.
