I’m starting a series called The Conquest of Canaan where we look at all the tribes the Israelites fought and who they really were. The last video covered the Amalekites. The next episode is about the lion men of Moab. The account describes Israelites slaying lion hybrid creatures. Humanoid lion beings were a common motif in the cultures surrounding Israel, like the Egyptian lion-headed gods.
2 Samuel 23:20 – Septuagint (LXX) He struck down the two sons of Ariel of Moab
2 Samuel 23:20 – King James Version (KJV) He slew two lionlike men of Moab
Reading the Septuagint more closely, it renders the phrase as “sons of Ariel.” Ari means lion and El means divine being, a word usually associated with God or angels. It essentially reads as lion-divine-being. This is fascinating because Genesis, Enoch, and the Book of the Giants describe genetic corruption by angels that involved not just humans but animals. The statue is clearly satanic and occult, much like everything else in this world. I'd always associated it with Mithra or some sun god of some kind, but the chains on the feet give it a whole new meaning.
