A friend of mine in Canada built one like that for a guy who wanted to try that as well. I believe it is currently for sale now. I personally believe the closest American car to the Aussie Falcon is the 1972-73 Gran Torino. There are creases in the quarter panels that are not on the Falcon but the siloutte of the cars is pretty similar. Also, the Maverick 4 door is pretty close to the yellow Interceptor that Max drives at the beginning of the movie, though the front end is very different.

Hey Buddy. f n a!!!! As a proud Aussie, mate one of our classics could not have fallen into better hands : ). Your attention to detail but also appreciation of one of our classic cars over here is muchly appreciated. The hardtops are as rare as rocking horse poo these days. Keep up the exceptional work buddy. BTW I own a 68 Mustang coupe, and I have enormous appreciation for American metal now.

that steering wheel is a formuling aftermarket item. Popular choice in the eighties/nineties in Australia. Congrats on the car. Grew up around them.

If you love XB Falcons I recommend watching Love The Beast. It is a documentary about a now well known actor (Eric Bana) and his love for his car.

Your engine sounds really good. It is along the lines of a lot of Aussie builds and they really know how to build this engine there. The rims are basically "wagon wheel" style with 8 spokes. The orginal movie rims were "Sunrasia" rims. They originally had sharp corners to the triangles but that provided a place where cracks could start. That is why this style of rim now has rounded corners.

Thanks a lot. Very cool that you got to sit in THE car. Funny how the real car is so inaccurate, but it's got all of the history and when it was restored there weren't such great info resources like there are now, so it's understandable. I knew the car was up for sale, I didn't know where it went to after that, so thanks for that info as well.

the 351 Cleveland engines were built in CEP#2 in brookpark. I built thousands of the base engines for the XB falcons. They were rough running 302 V8's with Holley 4bbl carbs. We Mounted them in metal skids.4 engines to a skid to ship to Australia. It was the XBGT that got the 351 Cleveland engine. The roof spoilers, etc were what we called down under the "ralley opack option". So these engines originated in the Cleveland Ford complex. I helped build them.

XA Falcons have a MILES per hour speedo. XB's has a KILOMETRES per hour speedo, but the dash was interchangeable between the two.

In a picture of a Mach1 and XB Falcon side by side you can see similarities, especially the front bumpers. Remove the turn signals from the grill of the Mach1 and put in off road lights and it looks close. However, none of these parts interchange with each other. Even the hoods don't interchange though they look almost the same, but the Falcon hood stops at the cowl (plenum) and the Mach1 hood goes to the windshield (windscreen).
